The start of something big
SPRING INTO FITNESS began as most projects do: with a mission. Simply put, the mission of Spring Into Fitness is to increase our community’s investment in health and wellness. We do this in 3 ways: improved access to local resources, sharing a passion for fitness through joyful, healthy experiences, and cultivating moments of personal growth through training and discussion.
Inspired to transform his community, Staff Sgt. Michael Keathley, a U.S. Army Soldier with the Army’s local recruiting team, reached out to Community Connections, Inc. and pitched the initial concept of Spring Into Fitness. In short, it was an idea we all agreed was worth running. Before long, the event garnered the attention and support of the local Marines, the City of Bluefield Parks & Recreation and the entire community.
Our goals for Spring into Fitness WV are:
Provide the community of Mercer County, West Virginia with greater, open access to local health and wellness resources — resources they may have otherwise overlooked.
Demonstrate different style of fitness: yoga, military bootcamp workouts, CrossFit.
Channel your inner warrior by completing the Army’s new Army Combat Fitness Test.
Serve as a health ambassador in the mountains of southern West Virginia.

9:30 AM . Day-of registration closing; JROTC demo.

11:30 AM . Fitness demo: Brickhouse- Grit.

Don’t miss this community event. Make sure to register below!
Though there will be on-site registration, we encourage those who would like a complimentary t-shirt to register ahead of time!
If you have never ran a trail race, this will be slightly different. No worries! The course will be well marked and easy to navigate. You do want to have shoes with ample tread, stretch out well, and always watch the ground ahead of you (those tree roots are sneaky!). Also: HAVE FUN!

Day-of registration will be available to those who are undecided. Run Roanoke (our timing professionals) will be on-site at 8:30am and will officially close out registration around 9:45am. 10am we kick off into the woods!
Awards will be around 11 am. Join the yoga demo at 10:30am to stretch it out!
After our runners have all crossed the start, the Mercer County JROTC students will be kicking off their own challenge. A 120-pound litter carry! Give these kids a big shout out for their hard work—they are training to be #ArmyStrong.
